Heka's Hope Haven Initiative is a survivor-centred organisation dedicated to providing free emotional support, legal guidance, and rights-based advocacy for individuals affected by violence, abuse, and criminal victimisation. Our work is rooted in empathy, confidentiality, and access to justice. We help individuals understand their rights, process trauma, and access safe justice pathways with safety, dignity and no judgment.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Role Summary
- We are seeking a committed and experienced Legal Practitioner to provide legal advice, oversee all legal activities of the organisation, and support the day-to-day management of operations.
- The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring legal compliance, high-quality service delivery, and ethical practice across all programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, timely, and survivor-centred legal advice to beneficiaries of the organisation.
- Oversee and coordinate all legal activities and interventions, including referrals and follow-ups.
- Support the day-to-day management and administration of the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Review, draft, and manage legal documents, policies, and correspondence.
- Work closely with programme staff and partners to strengthen access to justice for service users.
- Maintain confidentiality and apply trauma-informed, empathetic practice in all legal interactions.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Legal Practitioner with a valid practising licence
- Holds LLB and BL qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years post-call experience
- Strong analytical skills with excellent legal reasoning
- High level of attention to detail
- Empathetic, professional, and sensitive to the needs of vulnerable individuals
Desirable:
- Experience working with NGOs, CSOs, or human-rights-focused organisations
- Knowledge of criminal law, human rights law, or gender-based violence matters
- Experience in organisational or programme management
